WEEKLY LIVE RACES 101

WHAT IS A WEEKLY LIVE RACE?

Ergatta hosts a set of Live Races every week. In these weekly events, the competition has never been fiercer as you go head-to-head with your rivals and competition in real-time.

WHEN DO WEEKLY LIVE RACES TAKE PLACE?

There are four live races every week, scheduled for specific start times to accommodate members on both coasts, outlined below. The Wednesday race is a 500m, single interval sprint and on Saturday we up the difficulty with a 1000m, single interval sprint.

  • Wednesday at 7PM ET (500m)
  • Wednesday at 10PM ET (500m)
  • Saturday at 9AM ET (1,000m)
  • Saturday at 12PM ET (1,000m)

WHO WILL I RACE?

Live race matchmaking is based on who is currently racing live, so your competition will vary from race to race. As with all races, our intelligent matchmaking will pair you with members closest to your class and fitness level.

WHY SHOULD I PARTICIPATE?

Along with the heightened competition, Live Races also adds a deliberate element of accountability. Research shows that those who plan their workouts are more active than those who don’t. With Live Racing, you’re committing to show up and push yourself like never before.

HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Distinct from the other Ergatta experiences, you must sign up for your chosen race time in advance. We only release the sign-up for the next upcoming Live Race, so if you want to sign up for a live race that is scheduled for Saturday, you have to wait until after the Wednesday live races have finished.

Registration for Live Races is available in the Ergatta mobile app or on your Ergatta Rower.

  • On the app: To register for Live Races in the app, open the app and tap the “sign up now” button within the top banner on the homescreen.
  • On the rower: To register for Live Races on your rower, tap the Live Race banner at the bottom of your home screen or select the Races library where it is the featured Race.

HOW SHOULD I PREPARE?

The day of the race, ensure that you get into the live race lobby several minutes early as the races start promptly at the designated time. Make sure to account for the a few minutes to set-up your rower, possibly download any new software updates, and to navigate to the live race lobby.

Additionally, it’s important to properly warm up and stretch prior to jumping into the race. We recommend warming up in the designated Warm-Up Zone, which you will find in the live race lobby, to get your blood pumping and prepare your body for an intensive session.

IS THERE A SUCCESSFUL LIVE RACE STRATEGY?

Regarding strategy, it’s beneficial to take a flying start and get out the gate quickly. To do so, start rowing and increase your speed toward your race pace prior to the race starting, that way you’ll take off with momentum instead of starting at zero.

The first 25 strokes or so are important to make gains against the field. Then, settle into a sustainable rhythm and maintain your position for the middle half of the race. For the remaining quarter, give it everything you’ve got and finish proud.

Game on.
